MMIWG2S

Current MMIWG2S Events

The missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls has been an ongoing problem since around the 1980s. Indigenous women are more likely to go missing or be murdered than any other female demographic in Canada. This fact is looming over their heads every day. To try to stop this genocide a national inquiry was released in 2019. The inquiry contained 231 calls to justice, and those calls had been made long before the inquiry was released. It was not until two years after the inquiry that the government has decided to take action against this genocide and help the missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Police Involvement

The MMIWG2S cases have been handled and investigated poorly. The police have ruled out foul play in many cases, even when the evidence clearly supports the opposite. Additionally, Indigenous police forces don't have the proper resources to thoroughly investigate MMIWG2S cases.  The police can do something about the issue,  they can change a section the criminal code, which could help solve many MMIWG2S cases. Unfortunately though, the police refuse to take this action.
